Celebrating Women in Business: Stories of Strength, Passion, & Purpose

Women entrepreneurs are trailblazers, community builders, and fearless leaders—but they’re also friends, mothers, and dreamers who navigate challenges with strength and grace.

This International Women’s Day, we’re celebrating three incredible women who are redefining success on their own terms. They’ve built businesses rooted in passion, purpose, and perseverance, and their stories remind us that entrepreneurship isn’t just about making a living—it’s about creating a life that feels deeply fulfilling.

Meet Dr. Briana Botsford, Holly Penney, and Laura Sherrer Townsend—three inspiring women who are building businesses, uplifting their communities, and proving that success isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about having the courage to start.

Building the Clinic She Dreamed Of

Have you ever felt like the space you needed didn’t exist? Bri Botsford did—so she built it.

As a naturopathic doctor specializing in women’s health and sports medicine, she knew there had to be a better way to care for patients. She envisioned a clinic that didn’t just treat symptoms but empowered women to live strong, energized lives.

So, in March 2020, just days before the world turned upside down, Bri signed a lease on her dream—and Flow Functional Health Care was born.

“I wasn’t ready, but I did it anyway,” she says. “You have to be brave. Sometimes you’re going to cry, and you’re still going to be a great leader.”

Breaking the Motherhood vs. Career Myth

As a business owner and mother, Bri has faced the same frustrating question so many women do:

“What are you going to do when you have children?”

The answer? Keep running a thriving business.

“My motherhood and my career aren’t mutually exclusive,” she says. “I’ve found that surrounding myself with other women in business has been vital to learning how to juggle both.”

Her advice to other women? Take the leap, even if it’s scary. The perfect time doesn’t exist—but your dreams do.

From Survival Mode to Bold Living

Holly knows what it’s like to feel stuck—going through the motions, waiting for the right time to make a change. But she also knows what it feels like to finally say, “enough”, take control, and build a life you love.

She started her business to be more present for her family, and over time, it grew into something much bigger—a mission to help women embrace boldness in life and business.

Redefining Success & Letting Go of Perfection

Like many women, Holly once felt the pressure to "do it all"—business, family, personal growth, all in perfect balance. But instead of striving for balance, she embraced harmony—understanding that success shifts daily and that’s okay.

“One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that you don’t have to do it all alone,” she says. “Build a business that aligns with your values, not just what others expect of you.”

Holly shares her journey of growth, resilience, and taking bold steps forward in her book, Embracing Boldness, and through real, raw conversations on The Holly Penney Show.

Turning Small Acts of Service into a Thriving Business

Laura started Task Guru in the most organic way—by helping people. As a stay-at-home mom to five kids, she took on odd jobs for extra income—yard work, house cleaning, errands—until she realized that people needed reliable, trustworthy help.

Today, Task Guru is a thriving business, and Laura’s team helps clients reclaim their time and reduce stress.

“I love checking in with customers and helping to alleviate stress in their lives,” she says. “Our customers become more like family and friends.”

50 Ultramarathons Before 50: Running for a Cause

Laura doesn’t just push boundaries in business—she pushes them on the racecourse, too.

In October 2023, she completed 50 ultramarathons before turning 50—a mission she took on to raise awareness and funds for sexual violence prevention and survivor advocacy.

“As a survivor, education for our children is vital towards preventing this from continuing to occur in our society,” she says. Through running, she’s turned personal pain into powerful action—proving that endurance isn’t just about physical strength, but about resilience of the heart.
